DGL is an acronym for deglycyrrhizinated licorice, or a special licorice
extract for peptic ulcers (duodenal and gastric). Due to the licorice compound glycyrrhetinic acid, which may cause
elevations in blood pressure, a procedure was developed to remove this compound resulting in DGL which has no side
effects. The integrity of the gastric lining may be hampered by factors such as alcohol, aspirin and other nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs, caffeine, and a number of other factors. DGL stimulates and/or accelerates the protective
factors which protects against ulcer formation in the stomach and upper intestinal lining.
