Remember the Aesop's fable about the fox and the grapes? The tale says he kept trying to
reach what he couldn't get because he was so hungry—but I think the crafty fox knew the secret
of grape seed extract.
Grapes have been around for thousands of years, as you might guess if you've ever looked at
any Grecian urns, and the healing properties of their vines, leaves, seeds, and wine are well
known. Grape seed extract in particular is rich in antioxidants, those fabulous fighters of free
radicals that help to protect us from cell damage. Our fox would have appreciated its anti-
inflammatory properties after all that leaping. Research is ongoing on the links between grape
seed extract and treatment for a variety of other issues, including varicose veins, poor
circulation, and some skin problems.
I've learned that grape seed extract can be combined with quercetin‚ another powerful
antioxidant found abundantly in onions, to concentrate and supersize the therapeutic powers of
both. And the flavonoids found in both grapes and quercetin have been linked to something I
think is basic to good health—fighting fungus. Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant
supplement all in one bunch.
No moral to my story, only facts. If you continue to lead an honest lifestyle of good
exercise and healthy food, maybe boosted by antioxidant supplements that helps with the things
that your body might need a little more of, you're as clever as any fox.
