Arthritis

A person calls me who's been healthy and active all their lives, but now they're struggling because of joint pain.

Did you know that if osteoarthritis is robbing you of quality time with your family, there are a lot of good options for dealing with it naturally?

Arthritis is one of the most common health problems in America.

It can range from a mild stiffness to a completely debilitating condition. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions your joints breaks down. The joints start rubbing against each other and starts aching all the time.

No matter if you're really struggling with it, or just wanna prevent it from happening in the first place, here are some things to consider. First, as with everything else, your diet comes first. A clean diet with anti-inflammatory vegetables like onions and garlic could really be useful. Plenty of monounsaturated fats like olive oil, and omega-3 fats like fish oil can also help with the inflammation. And as always, keeping away from the inflammation-causing mycotoxins found in certain grains is a must.

There are also some great supplements people with arthritis have used successfully. The most popular are glucosamine and chondroitin. Chondroitin is the main component of cartilage, so supplementing with it seems logical. Glucosamine works along with chondroitin to help alleviate pain. Some people I've spoken to about this combo tell me that they've taken it, but they didn't take a high enough dose. Make sure that each capsule has at least 900 mg of the combo, and stick with it. Like all supplements, it takes time to get the full benefit.

A sulfur supplement called MSM also works very well with this combo. MSM helps the body utilize nutrients better, and can also help with flexibility.

Certain herbs and spices like clove and devil's claw also have been shown to help ease pain and increase mobility. And hyaluronic acid is another supplement that is terrific at lubricating the joints. By the way, make sure your multi-vitamin and mineral supplement contains boron. Recent studies show that boron may help osteoarthritis when people aren't getting enough from their diets.
