Immune Enhancing Supplements
We all know that keeping our immune systems functioning at peak levels is important.
But did you know about some of the newer immune enhancing supplements on the market today?
Thanks to Linus Pauling, we all learned about the immune enhancing effects of vitamin C. Most us have taken extra vitamin C during the cold weather months to protect ourselves against infections. It's a good idea, and I still do that. And for years, that was about the best thing you could do, along with a good diet and exercise. Nowadays, though, we're finding new ways of extracting immune-boosting nutrients from healthy foods.
I've told you before about a meeting I had with doctors at the University of Minnesota. They said that they had a new nutrient that they've been using to enhance the immune systems of their surgery patients. Well, it turns out the "new" nutrients came from seeds!
Simple black raspberry seeds and black cumin seeds, it turns out, can really keep the immune system strong. A lot of us have heard that raspberries have something called "ellagic acid". Ellagic acid has antifungal properties and anticancer properties to it. It is something called a "tyrosine kinase inhibitor", which is being used in cancer research as an alternative to chemotherapies for certain blood cancers. Black raspberry also has a particularly high level of antioxidants, vitamins, and omega 3 fatty acids.
The other seed they talked with me about was black cumin seed. In America, we don't know as much about this as they do in Mediterranean countries. There, they've used it for years. It contains natural compounds that have anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, analgesic, immune-boosting effects. It also has something called beta sitosterol, which is known for lowering cholesterol.
As good as black raspberry and black cumin seed are separately, something special happens when they're put together. The studies done on this combination show that the immune boosting power of both are greater than the sum of each of them separately. That means that you can start using this combination of food ingredients today to keep your immune system primed year round.
You can get these seeds in dry powdered form, or as oil-based gel caps. To find out which one is right for you, give me a call or visit the Immuno-VIVA and/or Vitamin C pages.
