Food Allergies

Did you know that food allergies aren't necessarily about the foods themselves?

For kids, food allergies can leave them out of social events and can be a real source of embarrassment.

For both kids and adults, it can be life-threatening if it goes unchecked.

I have to say that much of what I've learned about food allergies comes from Doug, who used to work in food allergy clinics. Like so many other professionals, he just went about his work and provided the same advice as everyone else. But one day he read a study that opened his eyes to something. In effect, it showed that food molecules were actually leaking through the lining of the gut, causing the allergies. We now call this "leaky gut syndrome" and we also know that yeast has a lot to do with it.

If you have food allergies, I would consider doing a few things, starting with Doug's Phase One Diet. Nearly everyone I've worked with who had food allergies when they called me found substantial relief after starting the diet and taking a few supplements.

I encouraged them to take a range of antifungal supplements in a certain rotation. Things like caprylic acid, neem, and undecylinic acid. Added to those, they took a fiber supplement. The fiber helps bind to the mycotoxins from the yeast and move them out of the body. I recommend either psyllium husk for this or kamut grass with slippery elm since both have been shown to bind to mycotoxins.

A probiotic is also essential. Today, I always recommend a probiotic that includes bacteria called reuteri and plantarum. These are good bacteria that have specific antifungal actions. These help seal up the gut that the yeast permeated. The amino acid L-glutamine also helps heal the gut.

Of course, I also recommended a good multivitamin for nutritional support. Together, this is a regimen I've recommended for many food allergy sufferers, and I've been so encouraged by the feedback.
