Rheumatoid Arthritis
Did you know that rheumatoid arthritis is also sometimes called "systemic arthritis"?
Rheumatoid arthritis is the most severe form of the disease and the reason it's called "systemic" is because it doesn't actually originate in the joint.
In fact, it is more proper to call it an autoimmune disorder that is concentrated in the joints. Joints in the hands, feet and arms become extremely painful, and maybe even deformed.
Gout is also a type of this disease and is associated with a waste product called uric acid that accumulates as crystals around the joints causing severe pain. Interestingly, there's a link between autoimmune diseases and uric acid and understanding this link may help you understand better how some people deal with it.
An autoimmune disease is a condition where the body appears to be attacking itself. The immune system acts against certain parts of the body the way it would against a germ. To me, it is so odd that the body would actually attack itself, and I'm not the only one who feels this way. Dr. A.T. Caver, an immunologist from St. Jude's Hospital, once said, "It is unlikely that the immune system is actually attacking nothing but the body. More likely, it's attacking a germ that we haven't identified yet."
Now, remember how I told you there was a connection between autoimmune disease and uric acid in gout? Well here it is. Uric acid is actually a mycotoxin, a poison that is excreted by fungi. What if the body is actually trying to attack fungus instead of itself? This possibility explains why many people I've worked with found relief when they switched to Doug's Phase One Diet and began taking antifungal supplements. There is a whole kit I've put together that takes the guesswork out of how to do it.
In addition to that, I've had good success with oils from berry seeds, which have great antifungal and anti-inflammatory action, as well as herbs and spices like curcumin and nettle leaf. Taken together, these strategies may allow you to get to the root of the problem instead of just chasing symptoms.
If you'd like more information on these combinations, just give me a call or visit the Antifungal Kit web page or any of the links referenced above for more information.
