Controlling Cholesterol
Did you know that controlling cholesterol may not require the use of potentially dangerous prescription drugs?
I'm worried that we're depending on drugs too much in America.
They've become like a "get out of jail free" card where we just pop a pill and continue with the same habits that caused us to be sick in the first place.
In the case of cholesterol, I've seen so many people respond to some simple changes in their diet and supplements that I am incredibly optimistic when a person asks me what to do about it. I'm sounding like a broken record, but I always recommend Doug's diet because it seems to be effective for nearly every condition I've come across.
In addition to that, I like having a supplement that has a variety of herbs, spices, amino acids, and other nutrients so that it can address the problem naturally and in a number of different ways.
Things to include in the formula include:
- L-arginine, an amino acid that seems to relax the arteries, helping blood flow.
- Turmeric, an anti-inflammatory spice that not only lowers cholesterol, but keeps platelets from sticking together. This helps keep the dangerous plaque under control.
- Cayenne pepper is another spice that works to lower inflammation while improving circulation.
- Plant sterols are becoming so popular that they're showing up in mainstream grocery stores in certain drinks that are supposed to lower cholesterol. My favorite plant sterol is a well-studied oil extract called gamma oryzanol. In addition to lowering cholesterol, it also has antioxidant properties that protect blood vessels.
- Also, artichoke extract has been shown to help with cholesterol, and provide the body with natural prebiotics, which are food sources for our good bacteria. Supplementing with good bacteria is also an anti-cholesterol strategy because when combined with fiber, they produce a chemical that blocks cholesterol from forming in the liver.
Together, a good diet, a multi-nutrient cholesterol formula, probiotics, and fiber may be the right solution for you cholesterol concerns.
