Multiple Sclerosis

Did you know that every week in this country, about two hundred people are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis?

MS is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system where the protective covering around the nerves is slowly destroyed.

Because there is actual destruction occurring, there's also a fair amount of inflammation that goes along with it.

Incredibly, no specific cause has been identified, but many believe it to be an autoimmune disease where the body appears to be attacking itself. I say the word "appears" because as I've told you in other segments, I tend to believe that the immune system is actually attacking a germ, not the body. And when you read the things Doug has published about how many people go into remission following an antifungal diet, you, too, may start to believe that fungus plays a role. This is why I'm adamant about getting people on the Phase One Diet and an antifungal supplement rotation.

In addition to those, I highly recommend good fatty acids from fish and berry seeds. These are critical in nourishing the covering of the nerves. It should be pointed out that many MS patients have difficulty absorbing fats, so please use a broad-spectrum digestive enzyme with your meals, along with a daily probiotic.

Taking a good multivitamin with plenty of the B vitamins and vitamin E, as well as the minerals calcium, magnesium, and selenium is crucial since people with MS often have deficiencies in these nutrients. The super-antioxidant alpha lipoic acid works right alongside vitamin E and selenium in protecting the nervous system from damage, and alpha lipoic acid helps boost the action of vitamin E, as well.

Finally, a 1992 French study showed that the herb ginkgo biloba has helped to inhibit outbreaks of multiple sclerosis. Look for gingko standardized to 24% glycosides for maximum effectiveness.

If you know someone with MS, the diet and the supplement strategy may be just what they need to live comfortable and productive lives. If you need help putting the right combination of supplements together, just give me a call or visit any of the links to web pages above for more information.
